Holistic Medicine
Holistic medicine is an integrative practice of medicine
in which the focus of care is the whole person who has the dis-ease
or disease. The goal is to achieve optimal health and well-being
for the mind, body, and spirit through a combination of complementary
therapies and traditional medicine. It emphasizes prevention, patient
participation, and personal responsibility, thus fostering a partnership
between the health care professionals and the patient. Complementary,
alternative therapies are encouraged, but traditional medicines are
not withheld when necessary. The advantages of such an approach are
several: (1) you get to participate in the decisions made, (2)
we offer alternative treatment options before drugs thus avoiding
drug side effects, (3) we personalize your treatment to your particular
uniqueness, and (4) we care about you first and then your dis-ease
or disease. We spend time knowing you and giving a fresh outlook to
your problems. |

Functional Medicine
Functional medicine is a science-based discipline that treats illness
and promotes wellness by focusing on the unique aspects of each patient.
It views disease as a breakdown of that which maintains a person's
metabolic balance. By identifying the body's malfunctions, the practitioner
can restore physiological, psychological, and structural balance.
The focus of treatment is the patient. |

Acupuncture and Traditional
Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture has been practiced for more than 4000 years.
It is based on the understanding that human beings are complex bioelectrical
systems and that an energy called Chi circulates throughout
the body along pathways called meridians. If the Chi circulation
is disrupted, the body cannot function optimally, and disease results
in the organ or system that is connected. Stimulating acupuncture
points can restore balance, natural flow, and rhythm. Acupuncture
is useful not only in pain management and analgesia, but in managing
medical conditions such as allergies, asthma, arthritis, sinusitis,
facial palsy, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. It can also be an
alternative to surgical facelifts.
Just as certain acupuncture points have different functions to
correct the flow of Chi, so do Chinese herbs. But while
acupuncture uses external energies to promote healing, herbal medicine
works internally to restore the body to balance. So in this
way acupuncture and herbs work together to promote healing.
Herbal medicine can treat similar conditions to acupuncture.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is considered to be among the oldest treatments used
by man. Today, it is an acceptable part of many rehabilitation programs.
Its benefits include reduction of muscular tension and pain, improved
circulation, increased joint flexibility, improved posture and reduction
of stress. Therapeutic massage is an invaluable modality for correcting
imbalances created by the impact of stress on the body and in managing
orthopedic pain. |

Clinical Nutrition
Clinical Nutrition is the cornerstone of healthcare. Many age-related
diseases, e.g. heart disease, stroke, some cancers, diabetes mellitus,
and immune disorders are closely related to nutrient deficiencies
and imbalances. We focus on balanced nutrient intake as an important
foundation for optimal health. Since people are biochemically unique
and enjoy various lifestyles and eating habits, we look beyond the
Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) in our nutritional assessment.
With the advent of nutritional genomics (or "nutrigenomics") the science
dedicated to understanding at the molecular level how certain chemicals
found in the diet can affect health by altering an individual's genetic
makeup, we can do functional testing and genetic testing to personalize
your nutritional needs. |

Women's Health
Most of the women's health problems we see at the Center are related
to their hormones being out of balance. At various stages throughout
sexual development, from adolescence to the reproductive years, to
peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause, hormone imbalances often
manifest with symptoms that get mislabeled. Many hormone imbalances
get incorrectly diagnosed as polycystic ovaries syndrome, endometriosis,
premenstrual tension syndrome, fibroids, infertility, and even depression.
By seeing women for their well woman exams and working with hormone
testing, we are able to put together a program using bio-identical
hormones, nutriceuticals and lifestyle changes. We use natural therapies
before resorting to synthetic medications. Besides female hormone
issues, we also deal with a lot of women with other hormone imbalances
such as insulin resistance, low thyroid conditions, adrenal stress.
and low sex drive. The endocrine glands all work harmoniously, so
if one is out of balance, we have to consider the rest. |
 |
 |
Men's Health
We work with men who have climbed the ladder of success in their careers,
but find their energy, vitality and sexual health going downhill.
We do a comprehensive evaluation that includes hormone testing. Like
the approach to women's health, restoration is again first, with natural
therapies and bio-identical hormones and then medications if needed.
We also see men for their wellness exams. |

Personalized Preventive Medicine and
Healthy Aging
Health is not just the absence of disease, but the pursuit of positive
vitality. Prevention is not only about screening tests for cancer,
heart disease, or other diseases. A holistic approach into the mind,
body, and spirit in the context of family, environment, and genetics
is essential to promote healthy aging. We approach your aging this
way, and through genetic testing we personalize your program. We
can identify genetic factors that relate to certain functions of
your organs, and from that, we personalize your nutritional program
to strengthen certain organ systems.

Alternative Pain Management
For those of you seeking a non-medicinal approach to pain management,
the Center offers an integrated approach through acupuncture, Frequency
Specific Microcurrent (FSM), and nutriceuticals. With your collaboration,
we can choose what works best for you. FSM is an FDA-approved non-invasive
physical therapy method using frequencies and current in millionths
of an amp to stimulate healing. Microcurrent frequencies resonate
with biological tissues and, with the appropriate frequency, change
the structure of the tissue. Your body is a complex structure of cells,
glands, nerves, bones, muscles, organs, etc. Each tissue vibrates
at specific frequencies. When there is injury or illness, the tissue
takes on a different vibration characteristic. When we apply FSM to
your body, we match the frequencies of the tissue disruptions with
the frequencies we choose for your therapy. FSM is helpful in a variety
of pain conditions, e.g., acute injuries, back pain, joint pain, sprain
and strains. Learn more at the FSM seminar. |

Autism Spectrum Disorders
and ADHD
Many biochemical and physiological factors combine in a child who
is genetically predisposed to autism and / or ADHD. We look for these
various factors and use natural remedies and nutriceuticals to correct
the problems. Excitotoxins, heavy metal toxicity, strep infection,
viral infection, or allergies are some of the pieces of the puzzle.
We work toward unraveling these factors through genetic and metabolic
testing. For more information on our approach, please visit Dr. Amy
Yasko's website, holistichealth.com. |
